We Blog Better

We Blog Better began as a personal blogging project – a place for me to blog about social media. The site’s design was featured in numerous galleries and showcases. It’s traffic grew rapidly and because of some other commitments, I transferred ownership to a very talented blogger. It was designed with an intentional “blog” look.

Danny Kirk is a Pastor in St. Louis and also serves as a Missions Director for the BMA of Missouri and the Meramec Association. He spends much of his time mentoring church planters and young Pastors, so a blog is an ideal way for him to share his life and advice with leaders at large. We created a simple logo for his site and modified the Ministry Free WordPress theme to launch DannyRKirk.com.

The Power of Google Blog Search

Be the First to Comment

I monitor traffic on a couple of sites I run using Mint, which tells me in real time how many people are finding my site, and how they are getting there – source, keywords, etc. It’s quite addictive and I have to watch it – only check it a few dozen times per hour. This morning, the traffic on my personal blog is exploding thanks to this… Read the rest of this article »

Separating Static and Blog Pages with WordPress

4 Comments to Read

One common question related to Wordpress relates to how one can have a “static” (in the sense that content doesn’t change) home page with just a simple link to the blog pages. That’s how this site is set up, though it’s subject to change. Just selecting a page as your home page under reading sections is fine for a simple blog site, but what if you want to have different sidebars or style changes between the two areas of your site? Here’s how I accomplished it for eGrace Creative. Read the rest of this article »

Can Small Be Good?

Be the First to Comment

I appreciate reading the blog of Seth Godin (along with half the world, apparently). Today, he blogged about the fact that “small is a weapon, not an excuse” and spoke of the power of the web to level the playing field between small and large businesses. I couldn’t agree more. Balance of Blue WordPress Theme – Updated!

Screenshot of Balance of Blue

I’ve completed work on a custom WordPress theme I’m calling Balance of Blue. I designed it with business applications in mind. I’m an advocate for using WordPress as an entire site solution and content management system, so this theme was created to highlight the potential for that kind of usage.

Please note: I’ve updated this theme and have based it on better code, so it now supports gravatars, tags, and other important features.

The Blogging Pastor

Be the First to Comment

I was listening recently to a well-known Baptist Pastor who asserted that “these bloggers” were overly critical of his ministry. Blogging Pastors have been blamed for a lot of stuff they really haven’t been responsible for. Important issues do have to be raised, however, when handling the responsibility of blogging.
