Recently, over at WeBlogBetter.com I’ve been talking about how people today (internet users) are living in a cloud. It used to be a web where we would go to end destinations called websites. But now, people consume the content of the internet on their own terms – rss feeds, email, social networks, cellular apps, etc.
I’ve posted several videos about this concept…

I recently started moving sites over to my new MediaTemple dedicated-virtual server. During the move, I ran into a small issue concerning a domain name that wasn’t resolving correctly. I asked on Twitter if anyone else had encountered the problem and @MediaTemple jumped on the question, went to work, and got the issue solved for me. I was so moved by the rapid help, I wrote a short tweet promoting them. Read the rest of this article »
I subscribe to a whole lot of feeds! In fact, I try to read feeds across a variety of disciplines aside from pastoral ministry and web/graphic design. This is because I don’t just value resources and links that give me some ready-to-apply technique or tool. I value a larger spectrum of creativity in art, music, decorating, etc. I wanted to pass along some of the blogs I keep track of that may seem to have little to do with my primary interests, but they help me to see how people think and relate and visualize things. I thought you might like them too… Read the rest of this article »

I’ve recently launched a little fun project over at WP for Ministry. It’s intended to be a gallery of churches, ministries, pastors, and even Christian web designers using WordPress to power their sites. The theme for WP for Ministry is an Elegant Theme. Feel free to offer a submission with a screenshot and a description.
If you use Internet Explorer regularly, please, please consider switching to Firefox. Why? There are lots of highly technical reasons related to open source technology, security, and speed. But one of the best reasons is you can customize it like crazy. Here’s a list of add-ons I use all the time. In fact, I don’t feel complete without them, which is probably a sign of something deeper… Read the rest of this article »
eCommerce is the technology that allows for the exchange of currency for goods and services online. If you don’t know about ecommerce already, welcome to the 1990’s! Since ecommerce makes money, it often costs money to set up… a lot of money! I wanted to weigh in with some advice for businesses that require, or at least are venturing into the world of ecommerce. I also wanted to suggest some intermediate solutions if you’re not quite ready for the plunge, as well as what I consider the best open source solutions for ecommerce. Read the rest of this article »
Over the last few years, I’ve utilized the services of quite a few different shared web hosting providers. My favorite by far has been AN Hosting. I’ll share the reasons why, but first, what in the world is shared hosting? Hosting a web site can be expensive business. Leasing a dedicated server that hosts only your site can cost hundreds of dollars per month. You also have to manage it by updating software, backing up data, and keeping it secure.
