Excellent article!

Interesting, my most recent post in my own blog dealt with why do people follow celebrities on Twitter, and in many ways it tackles the same questions you raised in this post. After all, what are celebrities but users, and why would we want to follow the? The same question can be posed to ordinary users which is what you've done.

Great post Brandon, I have an auto follow setup, however, I tend to unfollow those I don't know, or those whose tweets are not relevant to me or I find inspiring.

I tend to read a ton of tweets offline on the tube into work, so there I read most of my followers messages. So having thousands would be just painful!

However, using Tweetdeck allows me to have a special elite 'Twitter's group' so I don't miss a trick!

Excellent post Brandon and sums up my thoughts on my use of Twitter.

I guess I've been following you for about a week or so now and honestly don't care if you ever follow me back - I'm not numbers orientated (have a look at my blog and see what I mean ).

I tend to unfollow folks who tell me every inane detail of their daily life even if they occasionally create a gem. I find sacrificing not seeing that gem is better than knowing they're off to a burger bar now or some other tat. When I did that to one person I know off twitter he even contacted me directly to ask why ... so I told him hopefully without too much offence.
